Unable to grab video

Suryanarayana Murthy
Hi All,
  I am Vasu and i am new to the list.....

  My problem is...

  FFMPEG is unable to grab video from webcam (Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000).
The driver for this webcam is UVC driver that supports only V4L2.

  I downloaded the latest svn-snapshot of FFMPEG and installed in Fedora core7.

Then I gave
  $ ffmpeg test.mpg
  FFmpeg version SVN-r11287, Copyright (c) 2000-2007 Fabrice Bellard, et al.
  configuration:
    libavutil version: 49.6.0
    libavcodec version: 51.49.0
    libavformat version: 52.3.0
  built on Dec 21 2007 19:04:03, gcc: 4.1.2 20070502 (Red Hat 4.1.2-12)
  Must supply at least one input file

  It was asking for input files

Then,

  $ ffmpeg -i /dev/video0 test.mpg
FFmpeg version SVN-r11287, Copyright (c) 2000-2007 Fabrice Bellard, et al.
  configuration:
   libavutil version: 49.6.0
   libavcodec version: 51.49.0
   libavformat version: 52.3.0
  built on Dec 21 2007 19:04:03, gcc: 4.1.2 20070502 (Red Hat 4.1.2-12)
  /dev/video0: Unknown format

  I provided the format.

  $ ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -i /dev/video0 test.mpg
   FFmpeg version SVN-r11287, Copyright (c) 2000-2007 Fabrice Bellard, et al.
   configuration:
     libavutil version: 49.6.0
     libavcodec version: 51.49.0
     libavformat version: 52.3.0
   built on Dec 21 2007 19:04:03, gcc: 4.1.2 20070502 (Red Hat 4.1.2-12)
  [video4linux2 @ 0x841da74]Missing/Wrong parameters
   /dev/video0: Error while opening file

  and last i tried this

  $ ffmpeg -f oss -i /dev/dsp -f video4linux2 -i /dev/video0 out.mpg
FFmpeg version SVN-r11287, Copyright (c) 2000-2007 Fabrice Bellard, et al.
  configuration:
    libavutil version: 49.6.0
    libavcodec version: 51.49.0
    libavformat version: 52.3.0
  built on Dec 21 2007 19:04:03, gcc: 4.1.2 20070502 (Red Hat 4.1.2-12)
  Input #0, oss, from '/dev/dsp':
  Duration: N/A, start: 1198322863.352625, bitrate: N/A
    Stream #0.0: Audio: pcm_s16le, 44100 Hz, mono, 705 kb/s
  [video4linux2 @ 0x841da74]Missing/Wrong parameters
  /dev/video0: Error while opening file

same result...

  Before FC7 i worked in FC3 with FFMPEG and the ffmpeg version i used was ffmpeg-0.4.9-pre1, this version is working fine with the webcam Omni Vision 511 and the webcam drivers here supports "V4L(not v4l2)". Here i got good results, iam able to get the MPEG video data using ffmpeg and i used to give the command -optins:

  $ ffmpeg test.mpg

  then it grabs mpeg data to test.mpg file.

  But, why it is not working with fc7 and latest ffmpeg?

  So, please help me, any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
  Regards
  Vasu

Hi, did you tried it also specifying the size of the capture of the
webcam?

For example:

stefano@geppetto ~> ffmpeg -f video4linux -i /dev/video0 test.mpeg
FFmpeg version SVN-r11268, Copyright (c) 2000-2007 Fabrice Bellard, et al.
  configuration: --prefix=/home/stefano --enable-gpl --enable-pp --enable-swscaler --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libfaad --enable-libfaac --enable-x11grab --enable-libmp3lame --disable-optimizations --disable-mmx
  libavutil version: 49.6.0
  libavcodec version: 51.49.0
  libavformat version: 52.2.0
  built on Dec 19 2007 17:49:46, gcc: 4.2.3 20071014 (prerelease) (Debian 4.2.2-3)
[video4linux @ 0x8400120]Bad capture size (0x0) or wrong time base (25)
/dev/video0: Error while opening file

but:
ffmpeg -s 640x480 -f video4linux -i /dev/video0 test.mpeg

seems to work fine.

HTH, regards.

Please try to use a reasonably recent version of ffmpeg before asking
questions to ffmpeg-user: older versions aren't supported here!
