Joining MTS videos together

David Reade
I have a Sony HD camera that records in 1080p. The output container is MTS and the camera splits the video into 2GB chunks.

To join the MTS files together, should I:

a) convert the MTS into MP4 using FFMPEG + libx264, then use MP4Box to join the segments into a single file?

OR

b) join the MTS files together, then convert the single MTS file to MP4?

The purpose of the conversion to MP4 is for Flash Player based playback.

you probably can cat them together
cat 2nd.mts >> 1st.mts
first make a copy of 1st.mts or
cat 1st.mts 2nd.mts > result.mts
and then you can encode to the desired Flash format.

tsMuxeR works beautifully for manipulating MPEG-TS containers.
Unfortunately, download links seem to have been removed from the
SmartLabs website. You could probably find it on a download site like
CNET, though.

Why ? tsMuxeR not a command line utility

Why what?
tsMuxeR.exe is a command-line program. tsMuxerGUI.exe is the GUI version.

Because it's extremely useful for creating properly split or joined
MPEG-TS containers.

I have no idea what this means.

Thank you so much for your useful info. I also want to present one awesome program which converts mp4 videos and mp3 files quickly and without quality loss. You can try for free on the official website.

WINEPREFIX=~/.wine/soundtaxi wine SoundTaxi.exe
strings ~/.wine/soundtaxi//drive_c/Program\

Which of course makes soundtaxi a software that cannot be legally
distributed.

No surprise here, Carl Eugen
